  2. Installing and configuring SpywareBlaster NV

  3. Distributing the SpywareBlaster NV Client

Setting Up a Web Server
While SpywareBlaster NV should be compatible with any web server, we have step-by-step instructions available for installing and properly configuring IIS.

Setting Up IIS For SpywareBlaster NV

If you're setting up a web server for the first time, we recommend trying IIS by using the instructions above.

Installing and Configuring SpywareBlaster NV

The following instructions will help guide you through installation and configuration of SpywareBlaster NV.

Some of the configuration examples use information from the linked article above.

  • Installing SpywareBlaster NV
    1. Download the installer using the download link provided in your Download Instruction E-mail.

    2. Double-click the Installer and follow the on-screen prompts.

After completing the installation, the SpywareBlaster NV Admin Console should start automatically.

    3. When you first run SpywareBlaster NV, a "Key Required" screen will appear.

      Click OK.

    4. You will now need to enter your Admin Key.

The Admin Key can be found in your Download Instruction E-mail. It consists of two parts: a name and a license key.

Please use copy and paste (CTRL+C and CTRL+v) to enter both portions of the Admin Key. Then click OK.

If entered properly, the SpywareBlaster NV Admin Console will now open.

  • Configuring SpywareBlaster NV

If you have proceeded through the steps above, the SpywareBlaster NV Admin Console should now be open for the first time.

If not, a shortcut should be available on your Start Menu under "SpywareBlaster NV".

    1. Click on the Configuration tab on the SpywareBlaster NV Admin Console window.

    2. Setup the following items:

      • Check for New Updates Automatically
Select this option if you want the SpywareBlaster NV Admin Console to automatically check for and download updates.
You can specify a frequency from the drop-down list, or accept the default interval of 30 minutes.

NOTE: If you enable this option, you must ensure that the SpywareBlaster NV Admin Console remains running. For convenience, you can minimize the window to the system tray.

      • Local Path to HTTP Server Folder
Enter the local path to where the SpywareBlaster updates will be posted.
        (e.g. C:\SpywareUpdates - from IIS Setup)

This should be the local folder that you are sharing using a web server.

If you've manually configured your web server and it isn't on the same machine as the SpywareBlaster NV Admin console, you will need to create a folder to store the published configuration and update files, and write a script to copy the contents of this folder to your web server.

      • Network Identifier Code
Enter something unique to prevent unauthorized use of your SpywareBlaster NV environment.

      • Proxy Configuration
If applicable, enter your proxy server settings: address:port, user name, and password.

SpywareBlaster NV supports Basic HTTP Proxy Authentication.

This setting only applies to the Administrator Console itself. Client proxy settings are set separately later.

    3. Click on the Status tab.

    4. Click on the Client Configuration button at the bottom of the Status page.

    5. Setup the following items:

      • Name and Key
Enter the Client Key information provided in the Download Instruction E-mail.
Please use copy and paste (CTRL+C and CTRL+v) to enter both portions of the Client Key.

      • Server Path
Enter the HTTP address the clients will use to access the server for updates.
        (e.g. http://server01/spywareblaster/ )

      • Proxy Configuration
If applicable, enter your proxy server settings: address:port, user name, and password.

SpywareBlaster NV supports Basic HTTP Proxy Authentication.

    6. Click the Publish button at the bottom of the Client Configuration window.

    7. You can now specify protection settings, and enable the global ignore and custom blocking lists, through the tabs at the top of the Admin Console interface.
