Setting Up IIS For SpywareBlaster NV

The following instructions assume that you have not yet installed IIS. If you have, please skip to the section titled "Configuring IIS for SpywareBlaster NV".

These instructions are for IIS 6.0 (on Windows 2003), but should generally apply to other versions.

  • Installing IIS 6.0 (on Windows 2003)

    1. Insert your Windows 2003 CD in the drive, navigate to the Control Panel and double-click.


    2. Open Add/Remove Programs and click on Add/Remove Windows Components.


    3. Select Application Server and click the Details button.


    4. Select Internet Information Services (IIS). It will also automatically select Enable network COM+ access.



      Click OK and then Next.


    5. Update/install all the appropriate patches for IIS and your server.


  • Configuring IIS for SpywareBlaster NV

    1. Go to Administrative Tools and open Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.


    2. Navigate to Web Sites --> Default Web Site


    3. Right-click on Default Web Site and select New --> Virtual Directory.


    4. The Wizard will ask you for the Virtual Directory Alias.
      Input an identity for this web folder.
      (e.g. SpywareBlaster)


    5. Next it will ask you for the Web Site Content Directory.
      Find a location on your server that will hold the SpywareBlaster updates.
      (e.g. C:\SpywareUpdates)


    6. On the Virtual Directory Access Permission page select all options:



      Click on Next.


    7. Right-click on the "SpywareBlaster" Virtual Folder under Default Web Site and select Properties.


    8. Go to the HTTP Headers Tab and select MIME Types at the bottom of the page.


    9. Click New.



      Put .dtb in the Extension Field and in the MIME Type Field put DTB File (as seen above). Click New again. Put .sbl in the Extension field and in the MIME Type Field put SBL File (as seen above). Click OK.

      This will allow the virtual folder to serve the SpywareBlaster data files.
